South Shore Tide
Wednesday, March 18 · Your Morning Brief

Good morning, South Shore. 42° and clear — good day to walk the harbor. Here's what's happening.

Hingham · Town Hall

Planning board greenlights the Shipyard project

After three contentious meetings, the 47-unit development on Shipyard Drive got its final approval last night. The affordable housing component clinched the swing vote. Construction starts this fall, with the first units available by late 2027. Expect Main Street parking to get worse before it gets better.

Hingham · People

The Bathing Beach kiosk is under new management

Sarah Chen — who ran the coffee cart at Derby Street for two summers — is taking over the waterfront spot this season. She's bringing Vietnamese iced coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and lobster rolls to the menu. Opens Memorial Day weekend. If you've been waiting for a reason to start your mornings at the beach, this is it.

Cohasset · Schools

Middle school budget proposal adds two teaching positions

Superintendent Walsh presented the FY27 budget last night. The headline: two new positions in math and reading intervention. The override question is still on the table, but early signals from the Select Board suggest it'll make the spring ballot. Public comment session is Thursday at 7pm.

Scituate · Real Estate

Three houses hit the market this week on the harbor side

Spring listings are finally moving. The colonial at 14 Lighthouse Road is asking $1.4M, which feels aggressive until you see the water view from the second floor. A fixer on Turner Road listed at $680K — first time that street has seen anything under $700K in two years. Worth watching.

Marshfield · Waterfront

Rexhame Beach parking permit applications open April 1

Resident permits are $25 this year (up from $20). Non-resident: $75. Last summer they sold out by mid-May, so don't wait. Applications available at Town Hall or online starting next Tuesday. The new boardwalk section opens with the permits.

Duxbury · Things to Do

Art Complex Museum opens spring exhibition Saturday

The new show features watercolors from South Shore artists, including three pieces by Duxbury's own Margaret Liu. Opening reception is Saturday 5–7pm, free and open to the public. The tea house in the Japanese garden reopens the same day — first time since the storm damage last fall.

South Shore Tide is a free daily morning newsletter covering the South Shore. Town hall decisions, school budgets, new businesses, real estate moves, weekend plans — the stuff that actually affects your life, delivered before your first cup of coffee.

The newsrooms that used to cover these towns are gone. We think the South Shore deserves better.
